Your Wedding Reception at the Thatched Cottage, a Shepton Mallet Hotel.
The Thatched Cottage provides an excellent venue for a wedding reception. In fact, for three years, our function room was the Shepton Mallet Registry Office.
The function room is a delightful room with oak panelling, open fireplace and French doors and can be arranged to suit your requirments. It can comfortably seat 35 people for sit down meals or hold 45 for a buffet. The room has natural light and ventilation. There is also an adjoining overflow area and large parties can have the main dining room, seating sixty.
We can provide flowers, table decorations and other decorations to give the room the special ambience a wedding deserves. Alternatively you can decorate the room to your own taste
The Planning
David will be available to answer any questions you may have. Once you have booked your wedding reception we recommend that you arrange an appointment, this appointment will give you the opportunity to agree with us the timetable, the menus and the budget. We don't have set menus; rather we prefer to serve the dishes you like. My team can produce anything from a simple buffet to a sumptious feast. We can also run through the preliminary arrangements. Final details should then be confirmed prior to your big day
On The Day
Each couple will have their own idea of how the day will run. Here are some of the things you may want to consider
On arrival you will be greeted by our events team who will guide you smoothly through the day.
We suggest an official line up to welcome the guests to the reception.
The guests may take reception drinks while the Bride & Groom have
any further photographs taken.
Some couples invite their guests sit down whilst others are clapped into the room.
Grace may be said before the meal if desired.
It is customary for the Bride & Groom to cut the cake after the main course.
The cake may then be served with coffee or with the evening buffet.
After coffee, the Bride’s Father is asked to propose a “toast” to the Bride & Groom.
The Groom is then called upon to reply on behalf of his wife and himself,
finishing with a “toast” to the bridesmaids.
Other speakers may be called upon at this point.
The Best Man now responds on behalf of the bridesmaids and reads the cards and messages.
